08 seems to be a lucky number, however, we miss much and gain little. Sorrow is along with smile while tear is accompanied by hope.

Today is the last day of 2008, those days full of joy and sorrow make me never dare to look back.

But time will not stop because of my no looking back. Time is always advancing doggedly and would never stop no matter what it comes cross. As a result, I must face it coolly.

Tomorrow, the bell of New Year will be knolled. Undiscovered trip is waiting for me; whether the trip ahead is smooth or rough, I will go without turning back with smile.

In 2008, what have I done; what have I achieved; and what have I lost?

try our best to do what we can do.

In my veiw , it is important to keep your money in your personal account until economic crisis disappear.Don't spent money for unuseful things.Keep you job, Don't change your work during this period. Work hard! Don't lost your job!

I think we can overcome any difficulties.

I never think we will face the economic crisis when I was a student, though our teacher try to tell us what is that, how it comes, what is the end and so on. I always believe that we are luckily enough to avoid the economic crisis in the socialist society. But now we have to face it.

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind. It is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees. It is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep spring of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exits in a man of 60, more than a boy of 20.nobody grows merely by the number of years; we grow old by deserting our ideas. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust1 bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from infinite, so long as you are young.

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with the snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80.

Myths surround most everything on this earth and breast cancer is not exempt from that. We all know and hear about breast cancer but it does not mean that the information that we have is always accurate. That is why there are some things which are considered myths! Why don’t you check your knowledge against these myths? You (or others around you) will be better off with the right information.

Myth #1: I (or someone you know) am too young to have breast cancer.
The truth is that women of all ages can be affected with breast cancer. The reason behind this myth is that most women who get breast cancer are older but that does not exclude the possibility of younger women getting it also. This is one good reason women should have check ups or at least perform breast self-examination.

Myth #2: There is no history of breast cancer in my family, ergo, I have nothing to worry about.
Not that I am being an alarmist here but just because no one in your family has ever been diagnosed with breast cancer does not mean that you have absolutely no chance of getting it. The truth of the matter is that a good number of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of it. So do not be complacent because of this.

Myth #3: I have no risk factor for breast cancer so I am perfectly safe.
Again, not to be an alarmist, but there are many women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer even if they didn’t have a single risk factor. The only “risk factor” they had was being a woman.

I hope that I am not being perceived as negative here but my point is that you have to take certain steps in order to be vigilant against breast cancer.

Physical fitness has a huge effect on your self confidence. By getting in shape, you energize yourself, and accomplish something positive.

1. Change one food a month

Dieting is a total waste! It's not sustainable — it's hard to change everything about your diet overnight for the long haul. But changing one food every month is easy. Simply change one food in your diet each month — and get used to it. It's that easy!Replace sugar cereal with oatmeal or a whole-grain cereal. Instead of a burger, try a leaner sandwich. Once you get used to it, change another food!

2. Say No to Mayo

Jam-packed with fat — that's mayonnaise! Butter and cream cheese are the same. Use a healthier alternative like canola-oil margarine.

3. Replace Your Snacks

Toss out junk food from your pantry (you know you've got 'em). That's the best way to avoid eating junk food — junk it!You need healthy snacks — raw fruits and veggies are best. Nuts and wheat crackers are also good. Make sure you've got plenty at home. Take 'em to work too!

4. Hell with Juice

Juice is fruit without fiber - what's left is sugar! Eat whole fruits instead. Toss the juice, bring on the fruit.

— Toss the juice, bring on the fruit!

5. 'O Holy Water

It's the best drink out there! Instead of coffee or soda to wake you up, drink cool water. We drink water here at the Boostle office all day long.

6. Vegetarian Day

Become vegetarian for just one day a week. You'll make a huge different in your weight over time and get more fiber and nutrients.

7. Eat Lots of Berries

Did you know berries stimulate memory cells in your brain? Eat berries everyday - sprinkle them over your oat cereal in the morning. They make a great snack too.

Do you sometimes yearn for a simple life? A life where time seems to flow slower. A life that is spacious where you have time to think, or even to dream?

I did. Until I realized that my life is how I create it. And that I can change my life if I want to.

I can live a simple life. Or I can live a busy life that includes spacious times. Here are five changes that worked for me. I now enjoy life more, am less stressed, and sleep better. I’m a more relaxed companion and friend and more fun to be with.

1. De-clutter your home
Clutter produces stress. Look around you for a moment. Can you spot things that sit around doing nothing for months and even years. Things that you could give away without even noticing a lack?

Clear up cluttered rooms.

If you find things that you haven’t used in the last two years, consider giving them away. If you find that impossible because the things still have meaning for you, box them up and put them into storage.

Give away what you don’t need

Go through your wardrobe and toss out what you haven’t worn for years. Chances are that if you didn’t wear it in the last two years, you never will.

Keep the rooms you live in tidy. Clutter creates stress.

2. De-clutter your mind.

Refresh your mind daily through meditation

Even just ten minutes of meditation a day helps you to find a more calm and collected peace of mind. There are some very simple ways to meditate. Sit upright, either upon a firm cushion on the floor, or on a chair. Focus on your breath and let your thoughts go.

Use a journal to note down all your pending tasks

Tasks clutter up our mind. We tend to get anxious if we have a lot of things we have to do and want to keep track of what needs to be done. Let your notebook or scheduling software hold the thoughts for you!

3. Give up energy drains.

Stop watching TV indiscriminately

Check out how much time you are spending in front of the TV. Passive entertainment drains your energy. Plan what you want to watch for the coming week and stick to the schedule you have set. If you find it difficult to stop watching after a program has finished, set a timer at the other end of the room. Getting up to stop it will break the spell and you’ll be able to switch the TV off.

Stop spending time with people who drain your energy

Are there people in your life who are energy drainers? Maybe they are chronic complainers, or you find it difficult to communicate with them. If so, limit the time you spend with them. You will find that your life runs more smoothly and is less cluttered with emotional junk.

4. Slow down.

Do one thing at a time

Stop multitasking. Do you watch TV and work on your laptop at the same time? Do you chop carrots and listen to the radio? Do you carry on with household tasks while listening to your partner? If you said ‘yes’ to one or more of these questions, you might like to try slowing down. Just do one thing at a time.

Take up a activities that slows you down. Surfing, yoga, Tai Chi, etc

Intense physical hobbies blow all the cobwebs out of your mind. When you’ve just caught that wave or are about to launch your snowboard down a steep slope, your mind naturally empties. Yoga does something similar. You don’t believe it? Just try holding a post until your legs start wobbling and you’ll find your mind becomes clear.

Quiet activities, such as painting or book-binding, can also be engrossing and help to slow you down.

5. Take time out.

Take time each week to refocus on what is important to you.

Spend time with people you love
Take time out to be in touch with nature
Take time out to enjoy yourself

These five steps allow you to reduce clutter in your mind. We need space in our lives to think and dream. Nobody can be creative when they are locked into a cluttered life.
What about your life? Is it cluttered or simple? What works for you?

I have a friend who is falling in love. She honestly claims the sky is bluer. Mozart moves her to tears. She has lost 15 pounds and looks like a cover girl.

"I’m young again!” she shouts exuberantly.

As my friend raves on about her new love, I’ve taken a good look at my old one. My husband of almost 20 years, Scott, has gained 15 pounds. Once a marathon runner, he now runs only down hospital halls. His hairline is receding and his body shows the signs of long working hours and too many candy bars. Yet he can still give me a certain look across a restaurant table and I want to ask for the check and head home.

When my friend asked me “What will make this love last?” I ran through all the obvious reasons: commitment, shared interests, unselfishness, physical attraction, communication. Yet there’s more. We still have fun. Spontaneous good times. Yesterday, after slipping the rubber band off the rolled up newspaper, Scott flipped it playfully at me: this led to an all-out war. Last Saturday at the grocery, we split the list and raced each other to see who could make it to the checkout first. Even washing dishes can be a blast. We enjoy simply being together.

And there are surprises. One time I came home to find a note on the front door that led me to another note, then another, until I reached the walk-in closet. I opened the door to find Scott holding a “pot of gold” (my cooking kettle) and the “treasure” of a gift package. Sometimes I leave him notes on the mirror and little presents under his pillow.

There is understanding. I understand why he must play basketball with the guys. And he understands why, once a year, I must get away from the house, the kids -and even him -to meet my sisters for a few days of nonstop talking and laughing.

There is sharing. Not only do we share household worries and parental burdens - we also share ideas. Scott came home from a convention last month and presented me with a thick historical novel. Though he prefers thrillers and science fiction, he had read the novel on the plane. He touched my heart when he explained it was because he wanted to be able to exchange ideas about the book after I’d read it.

There is forgiveness. When I’m embarrasssingly loud and crazy at parties, Scott forgives me. When he confessed losing some of our savings in the stock market, I gave him a hug and said, “It’s okay. It’s only money.”

There is sensitivity. Last week he walked through the door with that look that tells me it’s been a tough day. After he spent some time with the kids, I asked him what happened. He told me about a 60-year-old woman who’d had a stroke. He wept as he recalled the woman’s husband standing beside her bed, caressing her hand. How was he going to tell this husband of 40 years that his wife would probably never recover? I shed a few tears myself. Because of the medical crisis. Because there were still people who have been married 40 years. Because my husband is still moved and concerned after years of hospital rooms and dying patients.

There is faith. Last Tuesday a friend came over and confessed her fear that her husband is losing his courageous battle with cancer. On Wednesday I went to lunch with a friend who is struggling to reshape her life after divorce. On Thursday a neighbor called to talk about the frightening effects of Alzheimer’s disease on her father-in-law’s personality. On Friday a childhood friend called long-distance to tell me her father had died. I hung up the phone and thought, this is too much heartache for one week. Through my tears, as I went out to run some errands, I noticed the boisterous orange blossoms of the gladiolus outside my window. I heard the delighted laughter of my son and his friend as they played. I caught sight of a wedding party emerging from a neighbor’s house. The bride, dressed in satin and lace, tossed her bouquet to her cheering friends. That night, I told my husband about these events. We helped each other acknowledge the cycles of life and that the joys counter the sorrows. It was enough to keep us going.

Finally, there is knowing. I know Scott will throw his laundry just shy of the hamper every night; he’ll be late to most appointments and eat the last chocolate in the box. He knows that I sleep with a pillow over my head; I’ll lock us out of the house at a regular basis, and I will also eat the last chocolate.

I guess our love lasts because it is comfortable. No, the sky is not bluer: it’s just a familiar hue. We don’t feel particularly young: we’ve experienced too much that has contributed to our growth and wisdom, taking its toll on our bodies, and created our memories.

I hope we’ve got what it takes to make our love last. As a bride, I had Scott’s wedding band engraved with Robert Browning’s line “Grow old along with me!” We’re following those instructions.

“If anything is real, the heart will make it plain.”

The rain lasted for the whole weekend, and then another two-day small snow followed. It seemed that everything was frozen. But just as soon as I got up this morning, I noticed a piece of sunshine coming through the window. Sunshine! What a surprise! The weather finally had changed fine.

On the way to classroom, I noticed that the scenery of the campus was so lovely under the sunshine. Everything seemed to be fresh and new! During the rest of the classes, I suggested one of my classmates to have a walk. It was my first time to walk on that path which was under a shade and beside a peaceful lake. It’s a good place for walking. The sunshine was so warm that it seemed to also shine inside my heart! Then in the afternoon, also in the break of the classes, Miss. Wang advised us to have a look at the scenery outside the window. That’s another marvelous picture. There are a large piece of trees with yellow leaves which a bit looked like maple leaves. Those leaves were waving under the sunshine, through which we could see some outline of the hills far away.

What a beautiful day and a marvelous sunshine!

With only two weeks to go before Christmas, buying presents is a high priority for a lot of people. However, this year not so many people are leaving their homes to browse around the shops. These days lots of people can do their shopping in the comfort of their own home with the help of the internet.

Online shopping is becoming more and more popular for a number of reasons; prices are often lower online, you don’t have to queue up in busy shops and you can buy almost any product imaginable with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Computer trends are often male-dominated but this year women are expected to do more shopping on the internet than men. It seems women are now more attracted to the convenience of online shopping than they used to be.

Average spending online this Christmas by women will rise to £240 (3360 Yuan) compared to the slightly lower average of £233 for men, while the average spend per person on the high street is only £197. 70% of internet users, male and female, are now buying their Christmas gifts online.

In the past a lot of people were reluctant to shop online. Many were worried about the security of entering their card details on the internet and the reliability of the internet but as shopping online has become more widespread, these worries have begun to disappear. 45% of internet users still do have security worries but it hasn’t slowed down the ever-increasing numbers of online shoppers.

One victim of the online shopping boom is the UK high street. Christmas trading can represent up to 60% of turnover for some stores. Many companies are concerned that not enough shoppers are coming through their doors in the run-up to Christmas. As a result there are lots of special offers in the shops.

Most shops traditionally have sales after Christmas but this year the bargains have come early in an attempt to lure consumers to spend. Bad news for the high street has become good news for the bank balances of UK shoppers this Christmas!

西米主要的构成是淀粉,要想煮开煮透明,就要略施小计;

1.将鸡蛋打匀,加上等量的清水或鸡汤,拌匀之后加入适量的盐调味,再将蛋汁放入大碗内用保鲜膜包好大碗(保鲜膜一定要封紧,否则空气跑到蛋汁内,蒸出来的蛋便不好看也不好吃了);
2.将大碗放进微波炉中,用“解冻”(Defrost)的火力来蒸(用小火力的原因是如此蛋才会因微热慢慢地凝固,如用大火力,蛋一下子便“爆”掉了);
3.两个蛋大约需要蒸15分钟,但不同的微波炉可有适当的调整,如想要让蒸蛋花俏一些的话,则可以在蛋快蒸好的时候取出放入虾米、香菇、葱花,再封好碗蒸到熟;

1.先将一个鸡蛋打入碗中,再拿起第二个鸡蛋在其顶部敲一个小口,倒出蛋清和蛋黄,蛋壳留着备用;
2.在蛋壳里盛满温水,倒入蛋液里,两个鸡蛋需要兑两个蛋壳的温水;
3.往蛋液里加1/5汤匙盐、1/3汤匙油、1/3汤匙鸡精,搅匀调味后,用筷子顺一个方向打5分钟蛋液;
4.在碗口覆上一层保鲜膜,大火烧开锅内的水后,放入蛋液并盖上锅盖,隔水小火蒸15分钟;

1.肉馅放进盆中不停的打(搅拌),要顺着一个方向打;
2.在打的过程中加如适当的黄酒,酱油,一个小鸡蛋;
3.当肉发紧成团时适当倒些高汤后继续打;
4.当肉质松软时放入盐,鸡精,继续打;

1.把腿肉的筋挑了,用刀剁成肉泥,在肉泥里加点酒,生抽,加点水(大概一小勺),一点糖,拌匀,放几分钟;
2.拿两个生的咸蛋,一个取蛋白倒入调好的肉泥中(这样肉更嫩)用力拌匀,另一个咸蛋就盖在肉上面,那个咸蛋黄也放在肉上面,然后放葱段,生姜;

It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return. But what is more painful is to love someone and never find the courage to let that person know how you feel.

A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was never meant to be and you just have to let go.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone,an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone- but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks;they can deceive. Don't go for wealth;even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.

Dream what you want to dream;go where you want to go;be what you want to be,because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

Always put yourself in the other's shoes. If you feel that it hurts you,it probably hurts the person too.
A careless word may kindle strife;a cruel word may wreck a life;a timely word may level stress;a loving word may heal and bless.
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, ends with a tear. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.

To someone who is beautiful... all over

It is absolutely wonderful to have

someone in your life who is caring

and giving and gracious — some whose

smiles are live sunshine and laughter

and whose words always seem to say

the things you most like to hear...

because those magical people are really

beautiful... inside.

And it is a special privilege to

know someone whose outward appearance

is a delight just to see — someone who

lights up a room with radiance and

who lights up my little corner of the

world with a loveliness it has never

known before... because special people

like that are really beautiful... outside.

But most of all, it is one of the

world's most special blessings to

have a person in your life who can

add so much pleasure and such magnificence

to the days — as you have to mine...

because you're someone who is beautiful...

all over.

Space Heroes

Three Chinese astronauts returned safely on Sunday after orbiting the Earth on board the Shengzhou-VII space capsule. The message to the world is clear: after a slow start in space, China is catching up fast.

The spacecraft touched down in the Mongolian desert to rapturous applause from mission control in Beijing. Millions tuned in to watch the historic moment on television around the world.
Mission leader Zhai Zhigang was the first to emerge from the capsule and he was incredibly proud of their achievement.

"It was a glorious mission, full of challenges with a successful end," he said.

The mission follows China's successful hosting of the Olympics and included the country's first ever spacewalk.

Mr Zhai wore a Chinese-made spacesuit costing up to £20million (220million Yuan), and stayed outside the capsule for 15 minutes while his team mates stayed inside, monitoring his progress.
This exercise puts China as only the third nation, after the United States and Russia, to stage a successful space walk. It is also seen as a critical progression in the country's three-step space programme, with the ultimate aim to build a large space station.

Is there a new space race underway now? Roger Launius of the National Air and Space Museum think there is. "It is an Asian space race. It's between China, Japan, maybe Korea, certainly India," said Mr Launius.

"The Chinese, because of their full service capability – humans, robots and military – are at this point in time the leaders in that race. But those other countries have a lot of capabilities too," he added.

Meanwhile, the families of the astronauts have to wait patiently as their space heroes undergo two weeks of preventative quarantine, just in case their body defences may have been weakened by the trip.

SHANGHAI — China’s Shenzhou VII spacecraft blasted off at 9:07 p.m. Thursday, carrying three Chinese astronauts into space on this country’s third manned space mission in the past five years., according to state television.

The three-day mission is part of Project 921, China’s ambitious manned space program, and was expected to include the country’s first attempt at a space walk, which would make China only the third country to accomplish the feat, after Russia and the United States.

A Chinese astronaut has made the historic first step in outer space for his country. With the successful spacewalk, China has become the third country, after the United States and Russia, to do so.

Cheering erupted in the control room when Chinese astronaut Zhai Zhigang opened the hatch of the Shenzhou 7 spacecraft and went outside.

His emergence from the module was captured by video cameras mounted on the outside of the space ship and broadcast live to millions of Chinese viewers.

Zhai, who became China's first-ever spacewalker, waved to the camera at this historic moment.

Zhai says he sends greetings to the Chinese people and all the people in the world. Shortly afterwards, his teammate handed him a Chinese national flag, which he also waved for the camera.

Outside the craft, Zhai recovered a scientific experiment that official Chinese media said were solid lubricant samples. The ship also will release a satellite that will circle the orbiter and send back images to mission command.

For his 20 minute spacewalk, Zhai wore a Chinese-made Feitian suit, which is being highlighted as the first indigenous space suit.

It cost nearly $4.5 million, has 10 layers and weighs about 120 kilograms.

The Feitian is like a mini space ship. It provides pressurized atmosphere, oxygen and temperature control to keep astronauts alive in outer space, while still allowing them to carry out their tasks. The suit also protects wearers from radiation and small flying meteoroids.

One of the Shenzhou 7 astronauts, who did not actually exit the craft, wore a Russian-made Orlan space suit. Chinese authorities say Russian experts have been on hand to support the entire mission.

How to Lose Weight

It seems that many people today are overweight. No one wants to carry around extra pounds, lout few people know how to slum down effectively. They look for miracle pills and magic cures. In the end, they fail and the pounds come back. But the most effective way of losing weight is actually very simple. It is a combination of a good diet and proper exercise. What makes it work is determination. It requires discipline and commitment to succeed. Here is an example that proves the truth of these words.

My aunt had been trying to lose weight for years. She went on one diet after another, but none of them worked. She lost a lot of weight quickly only to have it come back. Finally, she followed her doctor's advice and began to eat a simple, well-balanced diet. She ate lots of fruits and vegetables and avoided high-fat foods. In addition, she joined an exercise class. She worked out three times a week. At first, my aunt wasn't happy because the weight came off so slowly. But her classmates encouraged her to stick to it and eventually she reached her goal. Best of all, she was able to stay at her ideal weight. That was because she had developed healthy new habits.

Many years ago, there was a king in China. He was a brave man who did lots of belifits to the people. He admired a beautiful girl and made her stay in the palace so that he could see her whenever he wanted. But, the girl did not like the frightful figure of the king. She seldomly spoke a word in the palace. Each time the king went to her place, he used to show her some treasures and brought some gifts to the girl in order to make her smile and speak.

On every full moon, the girl would burned incenses and wax candles to worship the moon. People believed that there was a god lived in the moon that made the moon shine. Girls who wanted to be a beauty and have a handsome husband should worship the moon.

One day, the full moon of the eighth month, the king brought three herbs pills to show her.

"This is from the priest of the palace. If I eat them up, I can live forever." He exclaimed.

This was the first time the girl stuffs he brought.

He continued,"If you and I both take one, we will both live forever. No one can take you away from me!"

Because the king afraid of the pills would have side effects. He forced the girl to take the pill first. If nothing wrong with her after taking the pill, he would take it immediately. However, the girl recognized that if she took all three of them, the king would left her eventually. Therefore, the first time, she spoke to the king,"Let me have a look of the pills first. Otherwise, I will not try at all."

The king surprisingly the girl talked to him. So, he handed the pills to the girl. She did not say anything but eat all of them. The king was extremely angry. He wanted to kill her.

At this moment, the girl started to fly. She could fly because of the intake of the pills. The king could not catch her, but watched her flew toward the moon and disappeared.

After that, people believed that there was a beautiful girl stay in the moon with a little old man and a bunny. The old man was believed to be the god inside the moon and the bunny was his pet. Day after day, Chinese believed that there were people lived in the moon. Their movement made the dark spot when we looked up to the moon. People used to worship the girl to glorify her chastity. So, on every full moon of the mid-Autumn became a festival in order to memorize her.

 Moon in Chinese Celestial Cosmology

The choice of the festival's theme -- celebrating the glories and mysteries of the moon -- was a natural. Along with the sun, the moon has long been an object of human curiosity and worship. "It is probable that sun and moon were early held to be deities and that they were the first visible objects of worship," according to the book "Sketches of the History of Man." To the most ancient ancestors of the Chinese, the sun and the moon were considered the "chief objects of veneration," according to records dating to the Han dynasty emperor Wu Di (157-87 B.C.).

In ancient Asian mythology, there is a strong relationship between the moon and water. The moon is said to regulate reservoirs and supplies of water. There is a suggestion that the moon produces fertility and freshness in the soil. The moon's role in bountiful harvests is widely recognized during autumns around the world.

  1. Feeling stressed or anxious at an inability to access the Internet? Don't worry, you're not alone and now there's a word for it: "discomgoogolation."
  2. Nearly half of Britons -- 44 percent -- are discomgoogolation sufferers, according to a survey, with over a quarter -- 27 percent -- admitting to rising stress levels when they are unable to go online.
  3. "The proliferation of broadband has meant for the first time in history we've entered a culture of 'instant answers,"' said psychologist Dr David Lewis, who identified discomgoogolation by measuring heart rates and brainwave activity.
  4. The term comes from "discombobulate," which means to confuse or frustrate, and Google.
  5. "A galaxy of information is just a mouse click away and we have become addicted to the web," added Lewis. "When unable to get online, discomgoogolation takes over.
  6. "It was surprising to see the stress this led to brain activity and blood pressure in participants both increase in response to being cut off from the Internet."
  7. The survey also found 76 percent of Britons could not live without the Internet, with over half of the population using the web between one and four hours a day and 19 percent of people spending more time online than with their family in a week.
  8. Forty-seven percent of those polled believed the Internet was more important in people's lives than religion, with one in five people paying the Internet more attention than their partner.
  9. Commissioned by information service 118118, the YouGov poll questioned 2,100 Britons during the first week of July.

A large number of Britons would be prepared to give up sex if it meant they would live to be 100, according to a survey on last Friday. The Mori research found that 40 percent would pass on the passion for longevity, although far more women (48 percent) were willing to make the sacrifice than men (31 percent). However nearly all (94 percent) would not give up their friends or family in order to reach their century while a half thought scientists should keep trying to prolong people's lifespans.Private health care provider BUPA commissioned the survey as part of a debate on the implications of an ageing population."Britain is facing an ageing time bomb with major challenges presented by retirement, the desire to live longer and the increasing burden of caring for older people," said Andrew Vallance-Owen, BUPA's medical director.

How to be happy?

In the past two weeks we have looked at the happiness formula defined by positive psychologist Martin Seligman, where H (happiness) = S (your biological set point for feeling happy) + C (the conditions of your life) + V (the voluntary choices you make). This week we look at the conditions in life that can improve our happiness quotient.
H(幸福)=S(个人生理幸福感受的固定指数)+C(个人生活状态)+V(个人主观选择)本周我们将着眼于能提升幸福指数的生活状态。
Step 1: Peace and quiet

Jonathon Haidt in his excellent book, 'The Happiness Hypothesis', notes that research shows that we can never completely adapt to new or chronic noise pollution. Loud noises trigger one of our most primitive fear responses (the other is the fear of falling) and we can never fully relax if we are surrounded by intrusive noise. Noisy neighbours are one of the most emotive causes of domestic upset for a very good reason. It is essential to have some peace and quiet every day. If you are unfortunate enough to live somewhere noisy, persist with complaining to your local council. Additionally, try wearing wax earplugs to give you some respite. If you need your TV, radio or music up loud, wearing headphones demonstrates altruism to your neighbours, which will make you and them feel good.
Step 2: Relationships

This is the most important of all the external conditions that can improve your happiness quotient. Often our deepest sources of unhappiness are found in poor relationships with others. A colleague at work who bullies or dismisses us creates untold wretchedness. A cruelly conflictual relationship with a partner or lover leaves us feeling betrayed and abandoned. A relationship with our parents or children which is not based on compassionate, unconditional regard creates isolation and misery. We never fully adapt to hostile relationships, they invidiously contaminate our wellbeing, squatting inside our minds as unresolved, destructive ruminations. When faced with such relationships, the most positive thing we can do is to either mend the relationship by confronting what is going wrong or learn to move on.
Step 3: Share

If you have discovered conditions or choices in life that have significantly improved your wellbeing, I would like to share them with readers. Passing on what works is essential to improve our own and the wellbeing of others.
